The Department is having two courses.  Botany as  a regular course running UG, PG, M.Phil., and research and M.Sc., Microbiology as self financing and B.Sc., vocational course in Industrial Microbiology.  The Department  of Botany started in the year 1969, gave birth for postgraduate studies in 1980 and research in 1982.  The Department has completed 30 years of dedicated service to the society and educated many students.  Alumni of the Department is  scattered at the global level.  The Department has applied for Special Assistance Programme (SAP) from University Grants Commission (UGC).  It has got recognition in the fields of Algology, Mycology, Microbiology, Plant Pathology , Physiology, Reproductive Biology, Cytogenetics, Ecology and Medical Botany. The  research programmes instill a sense of discipline, induce scientific vigour and provide  insight into applied aspects of Botany. The Department has conducted an International Symposium on Bio-inoculants (1987) for sustainable agriculture and brought out a  volume. Several national seminars in  different fields of Botany were conducted for the benefit of the rural youths.  The Department has also identified  several major and minor projects with national interest and produced nearly 10 Ph.D students and 20 are working for Ph.D as on date (March 2000).
