The Department has been offering B.Com., Course since 1968-69 and upgraded as a post-Graduate Department in the year 1976-77. The Department has been elevated to M.Phil., research level in Commerce from 1995-96 onwards. It has a total strength of 909 students. There are 14 approved members of the staff and another 14 members who are working in Self-Financing courses.

In addition to usual B.Com., course, the Department offers B.Com., specialisation in TAX PROCEDURE AND PRACTICES under the vocationalisation of graduate course with UGC financial support. 

The Department also offers a con-current diploma courses entitled "OFFICE MANAGEMENT AND SECRETARIAL PRACTICES" under self-financing scheme since 1995-96 to all students. Share Investment Management is also taught as an extra credit Certificate course since 1993-94. The Department offers office Management as as extra credit paper to all non-commerce students.

The Department gives due attention to the following fields  research orientation, viz., CO-OPERATION, BANKING, SMALL SCALE INDUSTRIES, RURAL DEVELOPMENT AND FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT.
