Started about 40 years ago, the Department of Zoology comprises today various diversified disciplines – B.Sc.,
Zoology, M.Sc., Zoology with specified courses – Aquaculture and Entomology, research degrees mainly Part time and Full-time M.Phil., and Ph.D., and also Post Graduate Diploma in Aquaculture (PGDAQ) and one certificate course-Freshwater fish and Ornamental fish Culture. |

All members of the Department are involved in teaching and also guiding
M.Phil., research work actively in different spheres such as Backfishwater
/ Estuarine Biology, Toxicology, Entomology Crustacean Biology, Sericulture and Freshwater Aquaculture. About 150 M.Phil degrees were awarded during the last 15 years. The
Department was recognized as a center for research from 1983 under the leadership of
Dr. A. Abdul Rahman, the former PG Prof.& Head of the Department, who was awarded TANSA Science and Technology in 1996 for his achievements and for his major research project works, 8 Ph.D., degrees were awarded under his guidance and
Department also was given recognition for active research center. |
At present,
Dr. G. Swamidoss Daniel & Dr. M. Ayyavoo Completed major and minor research projects and are guiding Ph.D., research scholars of the university. The specialization area in the various research fields include Fishery Biology and Aquaculture, Amphibian Reproductive Biology, Entomology, Crustacean Biology, MicrobiologicaI Work, Freshwater Aquaculture of carps, and Sericulture, and Marine Fisheries And Toxicology. Nine major Research projects to the tune of Rs.27.53 lakhs and four minor Research projects to the tune Rs.24,00 were completed successfully
with the fund from funding agencies- UGC, DST, DOEN, ICAR & PPRC. Four Major projects have been applied to above agencies by
Dr. M. Ayyavoo & Dr. G. Swamidoss Danniel. |
